Empower Health Center was founded by Dr. Yossi Shafer, putting forth his mission to create a platform where comprehensive multi-specialty mental health care is provided. This allows the community as a whole to benefit from quality mental health treatment using cutting-edge, and evidence-based treatment.

Our Therapists

Our highly qualified clinicians share a unified vision while remaining goal-oriented throughout the process,  using clinical measures to monitor each of our client's ongoing progress. Each client is thoroughly assessed using data-driven methods, and are provided an individualized treatment plan which is continuously modified as progress is achieved. We are founded upon principles that keep us current with standardized treatment methods as well as our community's needs.

Our Groups

Empower Health Center offers numerous group options throughout the week.  DBT and Psychodrama groups are available for men and women and support groups are also available. Each group is led by one or more of our highly 

qualified therapists.

Our Treatment Options

Empower Health Center offers individuals, couples, and group psychotherapy including DBT and Psychodrama groups for men and women. Psychotherapy is also available via phone/video conferencing to accommodate those who can’t make it into our office. Empower Health Center also has Yiddish speaking therapists available.

Dr. Yossi Shafer,

Ph.D.

   Dr. Yossi Shafer is a licensed clinical psychologist who received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Walden University. Dr. Shafer completed his internship at the Georgian Court University Counseling Center, and has served as director of integrated behavioral health care services for the adult internal medicine, pediatric, and women’s health departments at the Center for Health Education, Medicine, and Dentistry (CHEMED) for 5 years.

   He has received extensive training on treating adolescent/adult clinical depression, anxiety, and trauma using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which he received training at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy. He also incorporates psychodynamic treatment within his treatment model. Dr. Shafer has provided training for doctoral students on psychological testing, assessment, and evidence-based practice, and conducted psychological research at Rutgers University. His published research provides data on patient variables that contribute to behavioral health care utilization and intensity within an integrated behavioral health care model, and his current research involves investigating variable contributors/barriers toward mental health care within the frum community.

Dr. Bracha Schnaidman,

Psy.D

   Bracha Schnaidman, Psy.D. received her doctorate in applied psychology from Rutgers University. She works with children, adolescents, and parents, utilizing cognitive-behavioral techniques to treat anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and behavioral difficulties. Dr. Schnaidman specializes in treating tic disorders and body-focused repetitive behaviors. Dr. Schnaidman is also a NJ certified school psychologist and has extensive experience in psychoeducational assessment, teacher consultation, and school-based interventions.

Dr. Margo Neuburger,

Psy.D

   Dr. Margo Neuburger is a licensed psychologist who received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University. Dr. Neuburger completed various inpatient training at psychiatric hospitals, including Northwell Health/Zucker Hillside, Queens Hospital, and Pilgrim Psychiatric Center. She trained in outpatient settings including the Yeshiva University Counseling Center, and the CBT, Psychodynamic, and Family and Couples tracks at the Parnes Clinic. Dr. Neuburger did a yearlong fellowship at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Additionally, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Yeshiva University Counseling Center. Prior to Empower Health Center, Dr. Neuburger worked as a staff psychologist at Ezra Medical Center, where she saw adults, adolescents and children with varied presenting problems. She also ran a small private practice where she specialized in working with adults who had trauma histories, struggled in relationships, with depression and anxiety. Her warm and empathic persona enables patients to feel safe processing otherwise painful and difficult experiences. Dr. Neuburger’s therapeutic style is integrative; she focuses on helping individuals gain insight into the root of challenges by creating a safe space and using a psychodynamic conceptualization while teaching evidence-based CBT and DBT skills to help with symptoms.

Chasya Berger,

LCSW

   Chasya (Rachel) Berger is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She is a graduate of Monmouth University, who has many years of experience and training in various areas of mental health, and specializes in DBT and Trauma therapy. Chasya was co-founder of Yad Rachel, an organization that provides services for women with post-partum and peri-natal mental health challenges, and she provided counseling and case management for women and their families for 17 years.

   Chasya was intensively trained in DBT by Behavioral Tech, Marsha Linehan’s training institute, and has been providing comprehensive DBT Stage I individual therapy and DBT Skills Training classes for over 6 years. She was also trained in EMDR by the Child Trauma Institute; Prolonged Exposure Therapy by Edna Foa and her team; and DBT-PE by Melanie Harned, with which she provides DBT Stage II trauma therapy.

Chasya provides adherent, comprehensive DBT therapy along with DBT groups and individual therapy using various modalities.

Devora Mansbach,

LCSW

   Devora is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New Jersey. She graduated summa cum laude from Long Island University with a Masters in Social Work. She works with children, young adults, parents and families using a diversified approach tailored to the specific needs of each client. In addition to her work as a therapist at Empower Health Center she also serves as the School Social Worker for Bnos Devorah grade school in Lakewood, NJ.

Devora has over 7 years of experience in a variety of settings, including both long-term and brief interventions. Her clients have ranged from preschoolers to geriatrics and have come from starkly different backgrounds and religions. Her areas of expertise include CBT Therapy (Beck Institute), children and adolescents with anxiety and depression, OCD in adolescents and phase-of-life changes, grief, and loss. She also provides parenting and collateral interventions within the family and school systems and crisis and suicide intervention. Devora provides an environment of compassion and support to help individuals and families gain the tools to overcome their obstacles, move forward, and thrive.

Rivky Schabes,

LCSW

   Rivky Schabes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing in Lakewood, NJ. She completed her Masters in Social Work at Long Island University in 2012. She is trained in DBT and attended training for CBT at the Beck Institute. Rivky is passionate about working with adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety and trauma related issues. She has been trained in and has been working with crisis intervention as well as suicide intervention. Rivky has worked through mobile response/ IIC services with Silvercare agency.

Deena Lefkovits,

LCSW CADC

   Deena Lefkovits is Licensed clinical Social Worker (LSW) and a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CADC). She earned her Masters of Social Work from Long Island University with a concentration in addiction. Her clinical experience includes over five years of dealing with those struggling with co-occurring disorders and she has experience with individual, family and group therapy. Deena is often contacted by community liaisons when individuals and or families are in crisis and has successfully assisted in many emergent cases, providing the most effective treatment possible. Deena's passion and boundless energy are the driving force behind her client’s success. By overseeing all her clients’ external needs, she allows her clients to enter treatment worry-free and fully focus on recovery.

Yehoshua Basch,

LCSW

   Yehoshua Basch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a concentration in Alcohol & Substance Abuse. He has many years of experience in working with adolescents/young adults and their families. His work at Nesivos, where he conducts comprehensive assessments and handles case management for struggling teens and their families, gives him an understanding of the wide range of issues that young people experience today. Yehoshua is trained in and uses a variety of modalities including CBT and EMDR, and tailors the therapy path for each client, because each client, just like every person, is unique.

Shoshana Landa,

LSW

   Shoshana Landa is a highly trained and experienced therapeutic Social Worker, certified and licensed in Israel and an LSW in New Jersey. She also holds certification in a range of advanced therapy tools, including EMDR, CPP, and trauma and sexual abuse specialty training. Prior to her relocation to the United States, she maintained a popular private practice in Israel for 8 years, treating clients struggling with PTSD or other life challenges. She also worked in both special and mainstream educational facilities, providing guidance for parents and teachers. Her services for testimony and lecturing have been sought after by institutions from Israel Police to schools and a post graduate training seminary. She is currently co-authoring a book on applications of EMDR therapy, in conjunction with Dr. Gary Quinn, chief EMDR trainer, Asia region.

Eliezer Plumer,

LSW

   Eliezer Plumer is a licensed social worker who has a Masters in Social Work from Long Island University with a concentration in Alcohol and Substance Abuse.  Eliezer’s easy going and warm nature has been an asset in developing strong working relationships with his clientele.  He has experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families struggling with anxiety, depression, and communication issues.   Using his background in both psychodynamic and behavioral theory, Eliezer has helped clients and their families overcome life’s challenges and start connecting with others in a more meaningful way.

Chaya Lipschutz,

LSW

Chaya Lipschutz is a licensed social worker in the state of New Jersey . She graduated from Wurzweiler University with a certificate in trauma- informed practice. Chaya is trained in and draws from a variety of modalities such as CBT,DBT, IFS and somatic interventions. Chaya works with children and adolescents using her warm and easygoing nature as a tool for connecting and working with her clients.

Dr. Sara Kahan

Dr. Sara Kahan received her doctorate in school psychology from Georgian Court University. She works with parents, children, and adolescents to treat childhood disorders such as anxiety, OCD, and ADHD. She also conducts comprehensive assessments for diagnostic and treatment planning purposes. Dr. Kahan has experience as a NJ certified school psychologist, where her role included assessment, consultation with parents and teachers, and implementation of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions. Additionally, as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Dr. Kahan works to improve the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as provides parent training for parents who are struggling with their child’s behavior.

Offering virtual sessions

In order to serve as many people as possible, while maintaining safe practices and following the recommended guidelines, we have begun offering video and phone sessions to our existing and new clients!
